How can I obtain a copy of a traffic accident report?

The Gardena Police Department investigates all traffic collisions its officers respond to. However, not every collision requires a written report. The Police Department will only take a written report when the collision involves death, injuries, liability or damage to the city, or involves a criminal violation of law.

If you have been involved in a traffic collision in the City of Gardena and it is determined that no written report is required, the responding officer will assist in the exchange of information between the parties involved. The officer will then record the names and vehicle information of the people involved and a brief description of the collision into the Police Department’s database. All parties involved in the collision will be given a call number assigned to the incident. A print-out of the call history can be used to assist drivers or the insurance companies in determining liability.

If the handling officer determines a written report is necessary, the report will contain the names and identifying information of all persons involved, statements of all involved persons and witnesses, evidence on vehicles or the roadway, and a brief summary of what occurred and who was determined to be at fault. This report is available for release to the insurance companies, involved persons and those who have a vested interest in the collision.

To obtain a copy of a police report you must complete a Report Request form and either mail or deliver your request to the Gardena Police Department Records Bureau along with a check or money order for $23.00 per each report. Click here for additional information regarding obtaining a police report.
