Does the City of Gardena have rent control?

The City of Gardena does not have rent control; however, it does have rent mediation, which is available to Gardena residents. In 1987, the City passed an ordinance to shield tenants from unreasonable rent increases. This law requires that a tenant must receive a notice of 60 calendar days prior to the effective date of a rent increase, and a tenant residing in a mobile home park must receive a 90-day notice. In addition to the rent increase notice, the landlord must include a notice to the tenant that they have the right to mediation and they have ten business days following receipt of the notice to file a mediation petition with the City in order to exercise their rights under this law.
