The City of Gardena offers two residential improvement programs for qualified homeowners: the Handyworker Fix-up Program and the Residential Rebate Program. The Handyworker Fix-Up Program will provide a handyworker to perform the necessary repairs at no cost to the resident with an allowance for materials. An example of the type of repairs that qualify under this program include: the installation of smoke detectors, dead bolts, grab bars, handicap ramps, minor plumbing repairs, replacement of broken window panes, window screen repair, and other small miscellaneous jobs. The Residential Rebate Program provides qualified homeowners a rebate for more extensive contractor improvements such as: roofing, electrical, fumigation, major plumbing, or concrete work.
Persons interested in either the Handyworker Fix-Up Program or the Residential Rebate Program must meet the following qualifications:
1.) The property must be owner occupied; 2.) The residence must be located within the City of Gardena limits; 3.) The owner must have lived in the residence for six months or more; and 4.) The owner must be in a moderate to low income category, in accordance with HUD income limits.
