Does the City provide any after school programs for youth?

Yes, the Recreation Division provides an After School Program for Gardena children in grades 1 through 8. The program operates when school is in session, Monday through Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The program includes homework assistance, snacks, recreational activities and free play. The After School Program for elementary children is available at Nakaoka Community Center, Freeman or Rowley Park . Middle school students may attend the program at the Nakaoka Community Center . Pre-registration is mandatory and all fee payments must be paid in cash. Parents who pick up their children after 6:00 p.m. will be charged a fee for the first 15 minutes they are late and each additional 5 minutes. This fee is due on the day you are late and must be paid in cash. Children picked up late on any three days may be expelled from the After School Program.
