I am a new resident. Do I need to obtain a residential parking permit? Do I need to pay the Wheel Tax?

There are 25 different Residential Parking Districts established in areas where there is high demand for on-street parking or a need to reduce commuter parking in residential areas. If you live in a neighborhood that requires a residential parking permit, the permit application can be found here. The application and required documentation may be returned in person to the Revenue Office located on the first floor of the Civic Center at 2100 Ridge Avenue. The completed application may also be submitted by mail, following the directions in the application.

Also, by ordinance, the City of Evanston requires all vehicles registered to an Evanston address to pay an annual wheel tax. The Wheel Tax can be purchased at the Revenue Office (Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Avenue), by mail or online. More information can be found on the City web about the wheel tax and residential parking permits.

The City of Evanston has other resources for new residents conveniently located on its website.
