Are there cooling centers? Warming shelters?

In terms of cooling and heating centers that the City has, most City buildings can serve as cooling and heating centers if residents are nearby one.  In terms of specifics, our press releases (when the Department declares a heat/freezing advisory) show the following locations:

Chandler-Newberger Center - 1028 Central St., Evanston, IL 60201

Fleetwood-Jourdain Center - 1655 Foster St., Evanston, IL 60201

Levy Senior Center - 300 Dodge Ave., Evanston, IL 60202

Robert Crown Center - 1701 Main St., Evanston, IL 60202

Main Library - 1703 Orrington Ave, Evanston, IL 60201

North Branch Library - 2026 Central St, Evanston, IL 60201

Chicago Ave/Main St. Library - 900 Chicago Ave., Evanston, IL 60202

The press release would also include the hours of the buildings for whichever days the advisory would be in effect (if the advisory is declared on a Friday, we may put Friday, Saturday, and Sunday's hours).  Interfaith Evanston also runs an emergency shelter over the winter for the homeless population. The shelter begins from December 1st to spring (usually late March) whenever the temperature goes below 20F.
